GETTING STARTED ON FARMLAB MOBILE
This guide provides instructions on how to use the FarmLab Mobile app to take and submit your samples. For information on how to take samples, and the best sampling methods, visit one of the links at the bottom of this page.
Step 1 - Create a new site
The first step is to set up the site where you will be taking your sample from. This could be the farm, house or land that you’re sampling on. To set up a site, select the menu button at the top left of the screen, and select ‘My sites’. Select the ‘+’ symbol at the top right of your screen to add a new site and enter your details.
Here you can set up one or multiple sites depending on how many sites you want to sample for.
Step 2 - Drop a sample pin
Once your site has been created, you can start sampling. To start, navigate to the Map screen from the main menu. Here you can select the ‘+’ button to drop a pin at the site of your sample.
Swipe or pinch to find your site and click the green ‘tick’ when ready. If you’re dropping a pin at your location please note that it may take some time for the GPS to catch up to your exact position - it is a good idea to wait for a few moments for the GPS to confirm your pin location.
Select the orange arrow if you decide that the pin position is not correct.
Step 3 - Enter sample information and scan or generate a barcode
After you have dropped a pin a selection box will open. Here you will be able to change the name of the selected site, add details such as the testing depth or size of sample and delete the site if necessary.
You can also use this to scan the barcode on your sample bag, or use the ‘generate’ button to generate a code that you can write on a sample bag for processing. Don’t worry if you scan a barcode by accident – simply hit the delete button and scan again.
At this stage it’s also useful to write your name, site name, testing depth and testing date on the sample bag itself.
Step 4 - Submission
When you are ready to submit your samples, click on the ‘Sample Status’ section in the navigation bar. Select the samples you want to be tested and hit send. The selection screen will direct you to select your Lab of choice, which tests you want completed and then give you an estimated cost. You can view what each test is made up of using the ‘i’ icon to the right of the test.
Samples that have been taken but not submitted will have an orange arrow on the left-hand side; submitted samples will show a blue arrow. Your dropped pins will change to blue so that you know the samples have been successfully submitted.
Put the sample bags into a mail satchel and send to the Lab (the address will be provided in the app once you have submitted payment).
Step 5 - Results
After the Lab has completed the required analysis, the results will be sent to your mobile phone. In the ‘Complete Samples’ navigation window, select the sample you wish to view, and the results will show on the screen.
